Venue, travel, and accomodation
As in previous years the workshop will be held in the Aula A of the Garbasso building of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Largo Enrico Fermi 2, Firenze. This is located on the beautiful Arcetri hill, near the villa where Galileo Galilei lived his last years. In order to get there, you should walk or drive to the building at the top of the big old stairs that you will find shortly after the gate. Please don't go too uphill to the Observatory, that is a long walk to the wrong place, you'd better stop at the Department! The Garbasso building is also the location of the INFN - GGI institute. In order to reach Largo Enrico Fermi by bus from the stazione you should take the bus number 11 and get off in Via del Gelsomino, then walk uphill for 5-10 miinutes. If you come from the aeroporto, there is the tram T2 leading directly to the train station (a single bus ticket, 1.50 euro, is valid for both rides if within 90 minutes). You can plan your trip by using the site of the bus company: autolinee toscane. Additional travel information can be found here: GGI link We do not have the resources to book a hotel in Florence for you, all participants will have to book a hotel by themselves. There are many resources to find accommodations on the web, including, among others, Tripadvisor. Near Arcetri nice hotels are, for instance: classichotel.it, hotelvillacarlotta.it, villabetania.it. However, we tend to suggest to find accommodation in the city center, possibly in the southern part of the city on the side of the river opposite to the main touristic attractions. This is the so-called Oltrarno area of Florence. Based on feedback from last years participants we can propose a couple of places: hotelpittipalace.com, for a nice hotel near Ponte Vecchio, or sanfredianomansion.com, for a smaller and less expensive bed & breakfast. If you can it is a good idea to share a taxi from the hotel with other participants to reach the workshop venue in Arcetri. |
